The 22nd Annual Grove Festival

On Saturday, June 25th from 5:00 – 10:00pm, Project Troubador will present the 22nd Annual Grove Festival at the Salisbury Town Grove, which is located at 42 Ethan Allen Street in Lakeville, CT. The Town Grove can be accessed by taking Ethan Allen Street off of Route 41 or Holley Street off of Route 44 in Lakeville and following the “arrows” that will be placed there on that day. A map showing where the Town Grove is situated in Lakeville and directions to it can be obtainedby clicking on the link below.

THE PROJECT TROUBADOR GROVE FESTIVAL is produced with the generous support of The Salisbury Bank and Trust Co., local businesses and Project Troubador members. Admission is $15.00 for adults, and $5.00 for children 12 and under. Project Troubador members are admitted free of charge. Bring a lawn chair to sit from the middle to the back of the audience, a beach chair (low to the ground) to sit in the front half of the performance space, and a blanket to sit wherever you want. Picnics are encouraged and in case of rain, bring protective gear.

Every year, Project Troubador produces the Annual Grove Festival at the Town Grove in Lakeville, Connecticut on the last Saturday in June. The goal of this evening is to create a “mirror image” of what we do around the world in our own backyard.The Grove is our local swimming hole but more importantly, it is a place where area residents enjoy gathering and as such , it presents a strikingly similar venue to the town squares we often perform in far from home.

Musicians and dancers with some sort of ethnic core to their performance appear under the evening skies at water’s edge, giving the local population a chance to experience far away lands and unfamiliar cultures in a setting where they feel totally at home. People bring picnics and blankets, children run around or crowd right up to the edge of the stage, and at the end of the evening, the whole town dances on the grass ! It is a night where small town New England swings it’s doors open to a world beyond and bathes in the beauty of performances that are at once mysterious, captivating and illuminating.

CMHA’s Northwest Center for Family Services will host “An Evening Under the Stars – On Safari,” an African themed fundraiser to support the Northwest Center and help cover the cost of mental health care for those unable to pay. The Gala will be June 4 at Black Flag Farm on Dugway Road in Lime Rock. Chef Tim Cocheo of Number 9 Restaurant in Millerton will prepare African dishes using his own techniques and plenty of (donated) local food. After dinner and a live auction that includes a South African safari as well as a week at a house in the south of France, guests will dance under the stars to music by local band Swamp Yankee, whose leader is Darren Winston of Darren Winston Bookseller in Sharon. All proceeds from the event will support counseling and behavioral health care provided by CMHA’s Northwest Center for Family Services. Big Rig in Lakeville June 11! Trucks, big rigs, firetrucks, race cars, police cars, tractors, cherry pickers, front-end loaders and more: all these vehicles will be available to check out at the second annual Big Rig Event to benefit Housatonic Child Care Center in Salisbury. Not only will there be all the vehicles, but the Lakeville Hose Company will sell food and there will be pony rides, face painting and more. The Big Rig Event will be at Community Field, behind the Patco convenience store at the Intersection of Routes 41 and 44 in the middle of Lakeville, from 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, June 11. Three highly acclaimed string players,Sophie Shao (cello), Jennifer Frautschi (violin) and Beth Guterman Chu (viola)  will perform works by Lei Liang, Osvaldo Golijov , Annie Gosfield, Penderecki, Hindemith and Kodaly.

September 24,
The Prometius Quartet will perform works by Cheng-Chia Wu, Shostakovitch, Jan Swafford and John Harbison. 
 
October 22,
Electronic Music concert. Compositions by Todd Merrill, Adrian Knight, Christopher Cerrone, Matt Sargent, Clive Davis as well as others will be performed. There will be a pre-concert symposium at 1:00 at which several composers will discuss Electronic Music.

All concerts will be held in Millerton, New York at 2:00 at the NorthEast/Millerton Library Annex – 28 Century Blvd.

May 7th marks the 26th annual running of the Sharon Classic 5-Mile Road Race in Sharon, Connecticut.  This fun event is the primary fundraiser in support of the Sharon Day Care.

Festivities begin at 9:00 on the historic Sharon Town Green.  Prior to the 5-mile race, children may run in a Fun Run (9:30 start) or our famous Not-Quite-a-Mile Race for children under 13 (9:45 start).  Both kids’ events take place on the Green.

The main event, a 5-mile run and walk, begins at 10:15 on the Green.  The course covers some of the most beautiful sections of the town.  From estates to farms, to churches – you get it all on the 5-mile stretch!  Rolling hills add enough of a challenge to make the race interesting but not too difficult.  First man and woman each receives $250; first place in each age division wins a cash prize.

With your registration you receive a t-shirt (1st 150 registrants), professional timing, food, massages, facilities, parking and more.  Also, there are a number of other activities to grab your attention on the Green:  silent auction, bounce house, plant sale, exhibits from local organizations, food concessions, and the list goes on!
